Dermaplaning facial in Bedworth

Dermaplaning is a gentle facial. I use a sterile, single-use blade to lift away dull surface cells and fine peach fuzz, and it feels like a light tickle. I work by appointment from a quiet treatment room in Bedworth, Warwickshire, a short drive from Nuneaton.

Every treatment starts with a conversation. If dermaplaning is not right for your skin, or you simply don’t need it, I’ll tell you.

What is dermaplaning?

It is a hands-on way to exfoliate and take off fine peach fuzz. I cleanse and dry your skin, hold it gently taut, then glide the blade across it in short, light strokes. The blade is new for every client and thrown away afterwards.

I finish with a soothing serum, moisturiser and SPF.

Who it may suit, and who should wait

It is for adults aged 18 and over, and it suits fine, soft hair only. It may suit you if your skin looks dull or a little flaky, or your make-up clings to dry patches. Please wait, or talk to me first, if any of these apply:

  • Coarse or dark facial hair, or hair that has changed with hormones. I will say if another option fits you better.
  • Active spots, a cold sore, or broken, sunburnt or freshly tanned skin.
  • Sensitive, redness-prone skin that is flaring.
  • A skin condition, or medicines that can make skin more fragile. Please check with your doctor first.
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding. Check with your doctor or midwife too, and tell me, so we can decide together whether to go ahead or wait.

What it feels like on the day

Your consultation happens in person at the start of your appointment, not as a separate visit. I look at your skin, ask about your health and the products you use, and check that dermaplaning is right for you. If your skin is sensitive, I patch test first, so if you are new to me, please message me before you book and I’ll arrange it.

The treatment feels like a light tickle or a gentle scraping. The appointment takes about 30 minutes. I explain each step as I go and stop whenever you ask.

How your skin may look afterwards

Many people notice their skin feels smoother and looks a little brighter. You may look a little pink for an hour or two. A tiny nick is uncommon but possible, and a few people get some spots in the days after. Results vary from person to person.

I usually suggest keeping make-up off for the rest of the day. When it goes back on, it tends to sit more smoothly.

How often?

Dermaplaning can be a one-off. You never need to sign up to a course. For many people the smooth feel lasts a few weeks, though this varies. If you enjoy it, I usually suggest around four weeks between appointments.

Aftercare

You go home with written aftercare. For a few days your skin can be more sensitive to sun and to active products. In short:

  • Wear SPF every day and keep out of strong sun.
  • Pause retinol and exfoliating acids for three days.
  • Skip the gym, saunas and swimming for 24 hours.
  • Keep your hands off your face and use a gentle cleanser.
  • If anything does not look right, message me.
  • Messages are not monitored overnight. If you feel unwell after any treatment, call 111, or 999 in an emergency.

Honest answers

Questions about dermaplaning

Will my peach fuzz grow back thicker?

Dermaplaning takes fine hair off at the surface and does not reach the root, so most people find it grows back just as it was, though the blunt tip can feel a little different as it grows. I can’t promise how everyone’s hair will behave, especially where hormones play a part, which is why I check your hair type first.

Does it hurt?

Most people feel a light tickle or a gentle scraping, and many find it relaxing. I check in as I go and stop whenever you ask.

Is dermaplaning good for your skin?

Many people like how their skin looks and feels afterwards, but it is not right for every skin, for example during a breakout, which is why I check first. Daily SPF and a simple home routine do a lot of the work in the long run.

Will I break out afterwards?

Some people get a few spots in the days after, especially if their skin is breakout-prone. It is best to try it well before any event, and if your skin tends to react, I may suggest something else.

Should I have dermaplaning or microdermabrasion?

Both lift away dull surface cells. Dermaplaning uses a blade and also takes off peach fuzz, while microdermabrasion polishes with a diamond-tipped wand and light suction. Tell me what you are hoping for and I will suggest the better fit.

When can I wear make-up again?

I usually suggest waiting until the next day. Many people find it sits more smoothly than before.
